Saint-Henri: the creative neighbourhood where work feels good

March 24, 2026 · CaféWork

Saint-Henri embodies Montreal’s transformation like no other neighbourhood. This Sud-Ouest district, once the city’s industrial heartland, has become one of Montreal’s café culture epicentres — and an ideal playground for remote workers.

The Notre-Dame West corridor

Almost everything happens on Notre-Dame West, between Atwater and de Courcelle streets. That’s where the best cafés, restaurants, and shops are concentrated.

Café Saint-Henri — The pioneer

This is where it all started. Founded in 2011, Café Saint-Henri micro-torréfacteur is the birthplace of Quebec’s third-wave coffee movement. Their original Notre-Dame West location remains a pilgrimage site for coffee lovers — and an excellent place to work. Minimalist decor, large windows, discreet background music.

Campanelli — Authentic Italian

Open since 2010, Campanelli is the neighbourhood’s Italian café. Come for the Barista espresso, generous sandwiches, and convivial atmosphere. The mix of streetwear and coffee creates an atmosphere unique to Saint-Henri.

La Luncheonette — The bright one

Steps from Place-Saint-Henri metro, this airy café with hanging plants is a favourite. Sandwiches, soups, and pastries pair with good coffee in a setting that naturally invites work.

The Lachine Canal

Saint-Henri’s secret weapon for remote workers: the Lachine Canal. After a few hours of intense work, nothing beats a 10-minute walk along the canal to clear your head. Several neighbourhood cafés are within walking distance of the canal.
